Sal is a trial lawyer with almost 25 years of experience representing clients in patent litigation matters and post grant proceedings involving computer architecture, display, hardware and software, microprocessors, Internet technologies, semiconductors, telecommunication systems, smart phones, televisions, routers/switches, streaming technologies, VOD, application testing, data compression, and cryptography. In 2023, Sal was selected as among the top 50 best performing and most active patent litigation attorneys in the United States, according to Patexia’s 2023 Patent Litigation Intelligence Report, for his work during the period 2017 through 2022. Sal also was recognized in the 2025 edition of Best Lawyers in America™ for Intellectual Property Litigation.

Sal has experience in all phases of patent litigation, including examining witnesses at trial, arguing dispositive motions and Markman, taking and defending depositions, and managing cases. Sal also counsels clients on patent monetization, patent portfolio valuation and intellectual property licensing.

Prior to joining Kramer Alberti as a founding partner, Sal worked in the IP litigation group of DLA Piper.

Express Mobile, Inc. v. Google, Facebook, Salesforce, Slack Inc., eBay, Microsoft Corp. (W.D. Texas & N.D Cal.) Representing plaintiff, leading developer of software tools, in large multi-patent related patent infringement cases.
Broadband iTV v. Amazon.com, Inc. (W.D. Texas) Representing pioneering video on demand (VOD) and content management technology company, BBiTV, in multi-patent case focusing on Amazon Prime and related streaming media services.
Broadband iTV, Inc. v. AT&T, DirecTV, Dish Network LLC (W.D. Texas) Representing pioneering video on demand and content management technology company, BBiTV, in three consolidated 5-patent cases filed in December 2019.
Wapp Technologies, LLC v. Micro Focus, Inc., HP Enterprises, Inc. (E.D. Texas Case No. 4:18-cv-00469-ALM) Won jury trial and $172.5 million jury verdict of willful infringement (the full amount requested at trial) against publicly traded UK company that acquired HPE’s software business in multi-patent infringement case in March 2021. Verdict appears to be the largest verdict in the history of the Sherman Division courthouse in Eastern District of Texas.
OpenTV, Inc. v. NFL Enterprises, LLC. (Central District of California) Represented OpenTV in a seven patent case involving streaming technologies. Obtained favorable settlement.
Intellectual Ventures I and Intellectual Ventures II v. Motorola Mobility (District of Delaware and Southern District of Florida) Represented Intellectual Ventures in back to back patent infringement trials in Delaware and won both trials. The asserted patents relate to technology in smart phones including MMS, power allocation and conservation.
MicroUnity v. Palm (Eastern District of Texas) Represented Palm in a twelve patent infringement action against MicroUnity. The case involved microprocessor technology. Obtained favorable settlement.
Pragmatus AV LLC v. Yahoo! Inc. (District of Delaware) Represented Pragmatus in a five patent infringement action against Yahoo!. The case involved distributed video teleconferencing technology.
Hynix Semiconductor Inc. v. Toshiba Corp. (United States International Trade Commission and Northern District of California) Represented Toshiba against patents asserted by Hynix resulting in an initial determination finding two patents related to semiconductor fabrication not infringed, invalid and/or unenforceable.
Qualcomm, Inc. v. Broadcom Corp. (Southern District of California) Represented Qualcomm in patent infringement case involving baseband processors and wireless technologies, including CDMA, UMTS, GPRS, and GSM technologies. Obtained favorable settlement.
Intellectual Ventures II v. JPMorgan et. al. (Southern District of New York) Represented Intellectual Ventures II in a patent infringement matter against several JPMorgan Chase entities. The asserted patent relates to a cryptographic co-processor for processing RSA or ECC algorithms.
Samsung v. Quanta Computer et. al. (Northern District of California) Obtained jury verdict of $9 million on behalf of Samsung in a patent infringement action pending in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The asserted patents concern technologies in notebook computers.
Hewlett-Packard v. Gateway (ITC) Represented HP in patent infringement action involving patents related to computer architecture, microprocessors, peripherals and monitors. Obtained favorable settlement.
Saxon Innovations v. Palm et. al.: (ITC and Eastern District of Texas) Represented Palm in four patent infringement actions. The asserted patents relate to cellular phone applications processors and wireless controllers. Obtained favorable settlement.
